It’s Wednesday, December 14, and here’s where we are…
I’m two drafts deep now, just kicking off the third, and I sincerely love this new thing. It’s a brand-new feeling, this kind of excitement and pride, and I can’t wait until I can finally clue you guys in about what it is and where you’ll (hopefully) be able to see it.
I’m trying not to go insane in the moments between bursts of creative work right now, and it’s not easy. My brain has clicked into this very particular mode, and the things I would normally do are not easy for me to do at the moment. I’m still watching and reading and playing things, of course, but I find myself avoiding a lot of the types of things I normally mainline, simply because I don’t want them in my head right now. Instead, I’m reading more comics than ever (including a full re-read of Fables and all its spinoffs) and using that time as a way of resetting my brain. I played God of War: Ragnarok, which is absolutely tremendous, and that was a great distraction even though I was surprised at how much common ground it had with what I’m working on thematically.
I want to alert you to an upcoming appearance I’ll be recording for Screen Drafts. I love this show and I love appearing on the giant supermegadraft episodes. The last one I recorded was with Toshi as my co-drafter for a list of our favorite Godzilla movies, and it’s one of the things I enjoyed most this year. Seems like we’re going to kick off 2023 with a bang as they decided to do every single Steven Spielberg film. They broke his career into three marathon drafts, and I’ll be going up against a group of very cool, very fun film fans to help determine the bottom eleven titles on the list. I’m sharpening my knives for a few films that deserve it and preparing to defend some very good movies that might end up in this lower third by default. When you’ve made as many great films as Spielberg has, it’s not like any part of this list is really bad. It’s just going to be a little more colorful than that upper echelon.
