Love is too strong a word for my reaction to The Matrix Resurrections, but as with the sequels, I feel overall there’s quite a bit more to like than not. Looking forward to your review.

Thank you for another wonderful year of writing that made 2021 so much easier to stomach than 2020.

I’ve got a stack of Movies to search out thanks to these newsletters and for that I thank you and wish you and yours the best in the coming year.

Big Alanis Morissette fan and I had been interested in seeing 'Jagged'. I've heard mixed reactions to the 'Woodstock 99' doc that's part of the series, but I enjoyed it and was looking forward to this. But she ended up disowning the film because she felt that the agenda of the director in the finished film didn't match up with the film she had agreed to make. There were things she revealed in a specific context that she ultimately felt exploited by in the edit, in addition to what she says were false points and implications. So I've been torn about watching it, especially reading a reaction to it like this. Ultimately, I think I'll skip it, though. Tough to support when the subject feels betrayed by a project they participated in.

Having seen the film, I am sorry Morissette doesn't feel like the film landed the full intent, but there's nothing "salacious" about it. I can't speak to her dissatisfaction, but the interview with her alone is worth seeing. I think she comes across as an incredibly strong person who has always had a strong idea about who she was in her work.
