Christmas really is a full time job from pretty much the moment Thanksgiving ends, isn’t it?
This year’s definitely strange. I have not been in any stores. I am trying to do everything online and not only with Amazon and it has been a real test. I am not satisfied with the way things have come together, but I keep telling myself that the real point of it is that I’ll be with my family and we are all healthy and honestly, what more could I ask of this flaming bag of dogshit of a year?
I’ve got one more big newsletter for you before 2020 wraps up, either Monday or Tuesday, featuring some news, reviews of Soul (I’m a fan!), Wonder Woman 1984 (I have questions!) as well as The Midnight Sky and News of the World (I feel like Hollywood stuttered!) and whatever else I can jam in there. Then we’ll kick off the New Year with the rest of that Rise of Skywalker piece which is going to also wrap up my thoughts on The Mandalorian’s second season. Those will both be subscribers-only issues, and if you are a subscriber, 2021’s going to be jam-packed.
January’s got plenty of stuff coming, including the first monthly installment of For Context, and I’m going to be adding some new features here. This has been a great first year, and all it’s done is make it clear how much better I can make this newsletter and how much more there is I want to share with you.
For those of you reading the free version of the newsletter, I am grateful for your readership, and I would pose the same question to you I did in the middle of the year: what would it take to get you to make the jump to a paid subscription? I think the free issues are just as full, just as interesting, and there have been plenty of them in 2020. I want to make sure that the freebie is something that gives you a full sense of what we’re doing here, but at the same time, it’s the people who have taken the next step who are keeping the lights on, and they’re the ones I am going to be working that little extra bit harder to please in the coming year.
I’m going to put up a holiday special. Right now, if you take the plunge for the annual subscription, I’m going to take a whopping 20% off. That means it’s just $56 for an entire year! But you have to buy the subscription between now and December 31. Once we reach 2021, everything’s turning back into pumpkins!
Seriously, subscribers… thank you for supporting independing publishing in 2020. I am only here because of you, and I appreciate each and every one of you who has made the choice that my work has value to you. I have to believe there are more ways to do this than the broken way, and every time someone else subscribes, you’re telling me that you agree. Your support matters, and I hope to make 2021 rewarding for you as readers.
Have a wonderful holiday, and let’s hope this next year is full of grace and love and bountiful joy for all of us.
Wishing a very Merry Christmas holiday season and a MUCH happier new year to you and the family, Drew.
Happy holidays, sir, and all the best for you guys, always.
